Lynne Mohrmann Bernthal


Lynne Mohrmann Bernthal serves as President of Benefit Concepts, Inc. With more than 30 years of experience in the human resources and employee benefits field, Lynne established BCI in 1989.

Before founding BCI, Lynne worked as the human resource director and operations manager for the Charleston County Library System. There, she interpreted and administered health plans to employees and was often frustrated by the lack of service provided by insurance companies. When she left county government in 1985, she switched careers and joined Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company. Later, with the experiences from the Library System still in her mind, she started Benefit Concepts Inc. to provide the type of service and support that had not been provided to her years ago.

As the company's broker, Lynne handles many prominent clients but also helps groups with as few as two people. She specializes in more complex clients such as those who are self-funded or ancillaries.

For years, Lynne has served as a member of The National Association of Health Underwriters' Leading Producers' Round Table. Lynne has also earned other awards such as the College of Charleston School of Business and Economic Alumni Advisory Board's Howard F. Rudd, Jr. Business Person of the Year award. She recently was named Top Producer for Thomas Cooper and Co. Aside from her healthcare-related accolades Lynne is involved in the Trident community by serving as the founding chair of the Board for the College of Charleston's Greek Alumni Council.

Liz Yandle


Liz Yandle joined BCI 12 years ago and is the company's office manager. With a certificate in medical transcription, Liz has been working in the healthcare field since 1994.

Liz works to resolve claims and billing issues with all of the company's clients. She also resolves general group administration issues by providing claims spreadsheets for clients, explaining benefits to current employees and new hires, filing medical, dental, vision and prescription claims with carriers, assists with employee and enrollment meetings and handles paperwork and forms for all groups.

Carrie Fletcher Pergerson


Carrie Fletcher Pergerson is a senior account executive with BCI and handles the company’s Greenville, S.C. office. Carrie received her degree from the College of Charleston in Corporate Communications and joined BCI in 1996 as a licensed health insurance agent.

Carrie handles sales and account management of group employee benefits (primarily health, dental and disability insurance) for businesses of all sizes and industries. She provides clients with extensive customer service including yearly renewal analysis and forecasting, handles claim resolution for employees and dependents, conducts work-site employee benefits meetings and administers policies. Carrie also sells and manages individual health and dental insurance policies.

Carrie is active in the community as she has served on the board and been involved with the James F. Byrnes Foundation since 1992. The Foundation provides educational scholarships to South Carolina college applicants who have lost one or both of their parents. Over the years, Carrie has also been involved with other civic and community organization such as the S.C. Association of the Deaf, Charleston Business Leads and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Heather Ryan


Heather Ryan, a sales agent with BCI, joined the company 20 years ago. Heather is a sales broker for group and individual medical, dental, life and disability plans. She also assists clients with day-to-day service issues including claims resolution. Heather has been in working in the financial planning and insurance industry since 1990 after graduating from the College of Charleston. Professionally, Heather is a member of the Charleston Business Leads Association and has also served as the secretary for the National Association of Health Underwriters.

Heather is active in the community all across the board with her activities ranging from Vacation Bible School, Women Make a Difference, Roper Hospital Volunteer, Junior League to Garden Club.

Sara DeBiasi


Sara joined Benefit Concepts Inc. to develop and implement sales in the Senior Market. As a senior market specialist, she provides one-on-one consultations, group presentations to Medicare beneficiaries, and employers who employ Medicare eligible employees. While Medicare products are her specialty, Sara also handles individual and group sales and service for BCI.

Sara brings with her 10 years of health insurance experience having worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of S.C. and The Commonwealth Insurance Group.

A graduate of the College of Charleston, Sara is active in the local community. She has served as a Team Captain for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce's Total Resource Campaign, Board Member of the Charitable Society of Charleston and is the Treasurer for the Lowcountry Association of Health Underwriters.

Caroline Battey


Caroline is a client services administrator for BCI providing support for the company's individual and group clients by developing quotes as well as processing new enrollments and member changes.

Caroline has completed coursework and passed the exam to be a licensed life and health insurance agent. She also studied International Business and European Studies at the College of Charleston.

Alex Coppotelli


Alex is a client services representative providing part-time administrative support to BCI and the company's clients.

Alex currently is in his junior year at the College of Charleston pursuing a degree in psychology.  He is active in the Student Alumni Associates, an organization that bridges the gap between the student body and graduates.

David F.L. Bernthal


David serves as Vice President and Treasurer for Benefit Concepts, Inc. He has helped maintain the financial structure of the organization and overseen compliance issues since he joined the company in 1997.

David's background is in estate and financial planning with an emphasis on insurance. Now retired, he spent 33 years with Mass Mutual where his concentration was on estate and trust analysis, business succession planning, executive benefit analysis and business insurance. He is past president of the Charleston Estate Planning Council.

David began his career as a professor at The Citadel teaching economics and insurance. More recently he taught in the Financial Planning Program at the College of Charleston. He has a total of 26 years full-time or part-time teaching in the insurance field.

On a personal and community level, David has been very involved in the Kairos Prison Ministry, with Trident United Way, St. John's Episcopal Church and Sea Island Academy.
